Gosaikunda Trek


Gosaikunda Trek is the trekking to Gosaikunda Lake (4380 m) located in Langtang National Park region of Rasuwa district. Trisuli River has its main spring in Gosaikunda Lake. Gosaikunda is one of the most sacred Lakes among several sacred Lake and lie North from Kathmandu Valley and Langtang valley. It lies in one of the most popular trekking route Dhunche-Gosaikunda-Helambu trekking routes. It is believed that in Gosaikunda Lake Lord Shiva cool his burning throat and himself down after drinking the poison extracted from sea.

Gosaikunda sometimes pronounce as Gosainkunda. It is lake located in apine region with freshwater covering an area of 13.8 hectares. The lake remain frozen for more than six month during winter from October to June and give birth to Trishuli River from it's melting and siping. It has religious significance among Hindu pilgrimage about Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri. Many Hindu scriptures like Bhagwat Puran, Vishnu Puran, Ramayan, Mahabharat, etc. direclty relate with the origin of Gosaikunda. Gosaikunda is believed formed by digging the land by the Trishul (Holy three-pointed sword). This religious site have particular significance during Jani Purnima and Gangadashahara. Many pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the area.

Gosaikunda Trek

Gosaikunda is an interesting tourism destination in the popular Dhunche-Helambu trekking route. The Langtang Valley trek lies in nearby in same district and both of this trek can be combined. These trek can be done depending on teahouse with hotel and lodge in resonable distance. The popular route to Gosainkunda is from Dhunche Village or Syabru Besi those both lies in Langtang region of Rasuwa district. While there is alternative to reach Goisakunda following another trekking route, that starts in Sundarijal which lies in suburban area of Kathmadu district through Chisapani in its way.
Gosaikunda Trek can be done during Janai Purnima Festival for an ease trip from lots of people in the way and temporary teashops available during the festival seasons. During winter the lake remain frozen. To experience to see frozen lake and play around and above it is adventurous. One should be chareful while walking over frozen lake sometimes you may dip inside cold water from the weaker part of ice.
